Rules

Rule #1: Glass is not allowed on the river

Under no circumstances are you allowed to bring glass to the river.

Rule #2: No Styrofoam

Styrofoam is bad for the environment in general but it’s really bad for our Illinois rivers.

Rule #3: No littering

There is absolutely no littering. What you bring to the river, must leave with you.

Rule #4: No jumping from bridges, dams, trees, or cliffs

This rule is saying you’re not allowed to stop during your float and jump off of different things along the way.

Rule #5: Life jackets are required.

You must wear it into the river and keep it with you at all times. Kids and non-swimmers must wear at all times.

Rule #6: Follow State Law

Although pretty self-explanatory, it’s worth mentioning.

Rule #7:

You must Register and sign waiver.  Any children must have legal guardian.

Enjoy floating the river but respect it too

It’s easy to get carried away on the river but it’s important we respect and follow the rules and regulations that are set in place for good reasons.

Besides, if you’re caught not following them, it may result in a ticket, fine, or even being arrested.

5-6 hours is based on 5 cfs for example only 8.8 miles at 5.5 cfs is about 1.5 miles per hour

You must book in advance. We have group trips on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Tips to Follow

Footwear- always wear sneakers or wading shoes, and try to avoid flip-flops and bare feet. The river contains slippery, sharp and uneven rocks, and it is very easy to twist an ankle, stub a toe or jab a foot in flops or barefoot.

Sunscreen- sunlight reflected off water is much stronger than regular sunlight, so you will burn much faster. Wear sunscreen at a minimum, and also a hat to ward off a painful sunburn.

If you encounter some type of issue, wave a paddle and blow the whistle furnished to you- someone will be along quickly to help out.

Thunderstorms are somewhat frequent in the Illinois during the summer, especially in the late afternoons and evenings. If you encounter a thunderstorm while out on the water, paddle to the closest shore immediately. Pull the kayak up on the bank, set the aluminum paddle as far away from you as possible, and seek the safest cover you can find until the storm passes. Try to avoid standing directly under trees, or contacting the water, as both water and tress conduct electricity fairly well in the event of a lightning strike. The kayak is actually a pretty good shelter from the rain when propped up. Simply wait for the storm to pass, and once it does, resume your adventure.

Water levels above  8ft feet, or flow above 5 can  at the desecration of the outfitters to deny your trip and refund your money.

Campground can cancel and refund  any trip or rental  for any reason they feel necessary. We have the right to refuse business to anyone.
